We are living in Trump time again. Remember last term? Each day felt like a week or a month had passed, depending. And this time is much, much worse. We’re in front row seats to death of democracy, the routing out of the shattered remains of the middle class, militarization, privacy erasure, and bankruptcy while this admin robs the nations coffers.
This is how the catecholamine response of the human body works. Fight, flight, or freeze it creates an internal sense of a time warp in which everything slows down.
You may think you’re having a relaxed day, but if this is an overall effect you’re experiencing, you’re not, really.
This isn’t as obvious as the lab animal that lays down on the randomly electrified floor, but that is our present state of being right now. A perpetual inner state of learned helplessness:
Oh I definitely feel all of that. It’s such a bizarre idea to me that some people are totally tuned out of the world burning around them. My parents and some others I know are like that. I could never ignore the truth like that.
For my parents, it’s not that though. They are just resigned to pretend nothing has changed with Trump, because they need to believe that. They voted for him.

Compartmentalization is a defense mechanism.
