So soup is both a type of soup and a category of food, that category being soup. Chowder is a soup but not all soup is chowder, some soup is just soup, or stew
i tend to go by the original definition. chili with no beans is a texas thing. chili that is more than just meat and peppers (you know, made by people who know how to cook) is an everywhere else thing. but chili is mexican, not texan so i tend to go by la definición más deliciosa.
USA, but we’ve moved everywhere for work/family and living situation reasonings. Now in Europe. Though even while living in Texas for a year, chili has beans there too except for hot dog chili
How does one classify soups? Is it a beef soup because it is made with beef stock?
I call it soup instead of stew because it’s liquid, I haven’t thickened it!
Stews are thicker than soups but not as thick as a chowder. If there’s more meat/veggies/beans than liquid then it’s a chili
Wait, chowder isn’t a type of soup?

Not without chili.
No beans in chili.
Core part of chili is beans lol

The bathwater makes the bath. The soupwater makes the soup.
It contains exactly one beef, and is otherwise soup.
