Heartland Tri-State Bank in Kansas failed after CEO Shan Hanes caused $47 million in wire transfers to be sent to scammers running a pig butchering scheme.
Reminds me of the general setup of the hustle tv show, except it existed before “pig butchering” was the term of art. They just called it a con or Confidence scam.
They even had whole arcs where they enriched the target a little to get them greedy for a even bigger payoff later.
