It’s honestly so depressing. I live in a giant apartment block and we do trick or treating amongst all the apartments in the building. Basically you sign up, get a door tag, and kids will show up to your door and you give them candy. Very normal. When I moved here there were dozens of apartments that signed up for this. This year so far there are 3. My apartment building has 230+ units. Literally just over 1% of apartments are now willing to give out candy to kids. Grim.

Haven’t had trick or treaters in 7 years across 3 different apartments and multiple states. Just 1 fairy princess around Year 5 and had to scramble to find some stickers to give her. Everyone does the trunk or treat stuff now, which made sense for little kids, but is also sad because it turns it into a sectioned off activity that you drive to and then go home.

It’s capitalism yes but it’s also the encroachment on Halloween by Christmas

The so called “War on Christmas” is a lie but it is also projection from the perpetrators of the very real War on Halloween

I have joined the War on Halloween on the side of Halloween

I am Halloweenpilled, Spookypilled and Skellingtonpilled

I am ready to do jihad for Halloweentown and become Jack Skellington

I feel this. Around the start of October I was seeing more Christmas bric-a-brac than Halloween stuff at stores within reach. debord-tired

I went to Lowes two weeks ago to buy a wall switch and I browsed the Halloween section near where you first walk in. Most of it was already clearanced to half price or more in order to make room for Xmas stuff.

Shit’s expensive too, even with the clearance prices. I always wanted to deck out my house for Halloween, but I’d be spending a paycheck or two to keep up with my neighbors, and I’m terrible when it comes to crafting and DIY.

gotta start somewhere, and you’ll get better by doing. even if it is totally amateur it’s going to have more heart than some plastic thing stamped out an ocean away

To be fair it also feels different because its 24 degrees out and people are wearing shorts and tank tops and I’m sweating in my Halloween costume

I’ve lost the battle with misanthropy. it’s not even fun to talk to people anymore because they’ll drop some sort of clueless class-unconscious take like this and then blame you if you explain why they feel bad

    Halloween is my favorite holiday…

I guess I must say was because every year I do less and less. It feels pointless. Why bother.

I hate it. I wanna dress up as a gorilla and chase people around like I used to when I lived in a walkable community where we knew our neighbors. Now though I’d just be some fuckin freak. I don’t think a single trick or treater stopped at our house last year. Ugh

Right? People are witnessing the death of community brought on by capitalism and many of their solutions are Marvel-brained “adults should never grow up and go trick or treating in lieu of kids.” Really?

For one thing, it was 80 fucking degrees today in the DMV.

It should be borderline about to snow. That would be a “normal” pattern. Ya know, the kind we haven’t had in 20 years.

Seriously, all the stores and media and commercials and ads are getting people hyped up about Christmas by now and people don’t get into the Halloween spirit and the Christmas spirit at the same time.

This is the first year I wasn’t able to do a Halloween staycation. Also (selfishly) sad to miss out on some stuff I was looking forward to because I got praxis stuff to do. Jealous of the libs in these moments.
