Sen. Bernie Sanders delivered an impassioned floor speech decrying “America’s dangerous movement toward oligarchy, authoritarianism, and kleptocracy.”
Seeing how these comments treat Sanders is literally why we have the issues we have
You’re all soggy limp critical weiners armchair activists and keyboard warriors.
Criticizing those trying is the liberal way I guess.
Words are empty, so get out of here with that “trying” bullshit
Words are empty? Absolutely clueless. Devolving into fools and morons.
If Americans listened to Sanders, maybe they would still have a democracy.
But, judging by their vote, they don’t want to anyway. The millions and millions of future or temporarily embarrassed billionaires in the US need to protect their interests.
First, this is better than most of the other Democrats and messaging IS important. Calling it out and giving people terms does have some benefits.
But we desperately need leaders, not just analysis and condemnation. Organize marches. He’s got the sway to get people somewhere on a specific day, and the country is primed for action more than any other time. So far the only things Trump has really shown weakness on have been the things that make rich people concerned (federal funding halt, trade wars). Make them worried that the other stuff will also be economically disruptive. Make there be consequences to the chaos so maybe they’ll try to get him to pump the breaks.
Yes, however at the moment it’s such an exhausting thought to even say why bother? We’re not even a month into the current regime and people where so concerned with letting someone else take a turn at supporting Israel that we couldn’t collectively get our asses in gear to prevent this from happening just a few months ago. We had the chance with an actual vote then to say this shouldn’t happen, and it was well known exactly this was the plan, what difference does it make to yell at them now?
Because the fight is never over, and it’s more important now than ever, and we need these people to lead and influence politics rather than just sit back and hope that a movement spontaneously erupts to do their job for them. And if they can’t, we need them gone so someone else can rise up who can meet the moment.
I wish Sanders and AOC would take a more concrete approach to tackling this issue. Talk is cheap, now more than ever. Most Americans who are aware of the coup just need a rallying call.
They can’t legally say what needs to be done. Trump, and his entire regime, hold the monopoly on violence. They can commit torture, murder, rape, war, and genocide all they desire. Anti-fascists have to use the rule of law that doesn’t exist.
100% agree we have an unfair fight with an opponent who doesn’t play by the rules.
It’s their job to speak for the masses, that’s the point of being elected in a democratic authority. If only hushed whispers are spoken in a room full of aggressive baboons, who is going to hear that voice of reason? Law follows precedence and there is no precedence for a coup of the US American government, so what rule of law are they exactly following? The status quo? We need to get uncomfortable, only then will things change.
“Revolutions are the produce of passion, not of sober and tranquil reason.” ~ William Godwin.
Which is why I’m announcing my support for Hillary Clinton in the next election
In this thread we see how the hexbear tankie brigades to shout against anything that could be conceived as actual popular progressivism in the USA.
Wow it’s almost like leading the mobilisation of a working class party only to then disarm it by capitulating to the capitalist duopoly makes your supporters hate you.
A majority of american hexbear users are former Bernie bros from r/chapotraphouse who now hate him for giving in to the dems. Look where that got us.
For all the things he and the “social” dems have said, all they’ve done in practice over the last 8 years is defang the labor movement by absorbing populist left into the dems.
BINGO
I might take you folks lot more seriously if you put in even some tiny percentage of the effort into fighting against and yelling about the actually destructive and evil shit that the current admin and his buddies around the world are up to as you do about the Democrats and anyone who makes any effort at progress in America.
The first part of the comment is correct, and I’m pretty sure most HB users who can are organizing and arming themselves (not just “yelling”). If not, I agree they should be.
The second part implies that half of the genocidal duopoly is “progressive”, which is kinda funny.
I’m not a tankie and I worked for Bernie’s first campaign volunteering. He’s all talk no walk. The time for doing something was after the DNC fucked him over in 2016. Were out of time now. The technology is a lot further ahead and the fascists control everything. They’re speed running collapse so they can rule the rubble and kill off a bunch of undesirables in the process.
Democrats and “social democrats” are spineless.
I’m thinking that I can’t see them because we have them defederated. It’s kind of like there are ghosts in many of these threads.
More than 50% at the moment. It’s kind of an amusing spectacle to watch them get all frothed up over people like AOC and Sanders who make actual policy proposals to benefit people, while real world authoritarian dictators are at least ignored and often praised.
