So I’m very new to the Fediverse. I really don’t know much about creating communities here. But I was looking for a community focused on Human Services/Direct Support and couldn’t find one…so I figured why not learn the Lemmy interface more and just create one!

I don’t want to be a mod. I’m more of a lurker, and am not interested in policing anyone’s speech. I mostly intend to back off, unless I see something particularly terrible. I’m very open to suggestions on, well, pretty much everything here. And if you want to be a mod, I guess message me and we can talk.

I hope this becomes something useful to folks working in Human Services!

Hey, thanks. So I see the little red “A” next to your name that says “Admin” when I hover. So are you an admin of Discuss.Online, or something different? I’m still trying to understand all of this. Also so like say one created a community on…I guess these would be called “instances”(?!?) and wanted to migrate them to different instances, is that a possibility to? Not that I have any complaints/etc., just trying to understand how it all fits together. Do you have any sway over the “frontpage” bit too? Because I have some suggestions there too…

      Thanks in advance.

Yes, I’m one of the admins of discuss.online. @m_f@discuss.online is much more active on here than I am if you need help quicker than I can get to it.

If you compare the fediverse to email it makes it much easier to comprehend. An email address is your user. A newsgroup is a community. An email host is an instance. Users and communities cannot move to new servers, per say. You can switch to using a different user or community but the address of the community is permanent. Moving your community would require asking all of it’s followers to switch to a new community.

Sorry to answer so late. I hope you are well.
