He walks off saying, “I think I’ll try a system of my own…”
Patty approaches Charlie Brown, who is carrying a tray of ice. She asks,“What have you got there, Charlie Brown?”
She watches Charlie Brown tossing ice onto the lawn. He says,“Ice cubes! I scatter 'em on the lawn, and let 'em melt!”

That is the joke. Kids sometimes think they’re being clever and avoiding work, only to make more work for themselves
I’ve been guilty of making my own worse systems. I just have to try out my own way first to make sure it can’t be done better.
The best part is when you make something that just barely works, then try to improve it until it breaks and you lose interest.
I’ve done this with houseplants, but never with a lawn.
