    It bothers me that You have to read the speech bubbles from right to left.

        I don’t get it? Isn’t it the norm that speech bubbles should be read from left to right or top to bottom? Placing them differently makes me read them in the wrong order and spoiled the joke.

          I think the joke works in either order, depending on how you interpret it exactly. Left to right works because the whale says “There are kids on that boat” which makes you wonder why that matters, and then the mermaid’s speech bubble shows why that’s inappropriate.

            Not only that, but the eye flow draws the reader from upper left boat to the girl to the whale to the lower left boat. 🤷🏼‍♂️
