The problem is that he’s turning his head in the opposite direction as his family so he’s watching it upside down

Mr. Schueler’s head is pointing differently to the rest of his family, meaning he’s been watching the TV upside-down.

He’s even stupider than the dog.

It’s just a comic, but art is in the interpretation, so this could also be an indictment against the traditional family roles in America.

First, Mr. Schueler bought a TV and set it up on its side because he’s such a complete moron.

Second, his family started watching the TV sideways. Why would they do this? In the traditional family, father is always right. They’re afraid to contradict him.

Third, he is so dumb that he didn’t understand why his family were turning their heads. His head is the wrong way, so he’s obviously just copying them without understanding.

Fourth, they called a TV repair man out to the house, but that doesn’t initially make any sense. What were they trying to fix? The TV was working as it always had. But if they were trying to fix their necks, they wouldn’t call a TV repair man. But the reason is that his family must have convinced him to call the repair man, because they were too afraid of him to fix the TV on their own.

In short, this comic is about the traditional family. The father is allowed to be a tyrant, even if he’s the dumbest and least capable person in the house.
