    What/where is the joke?

    Edit: see this reply

How do you know [that the ‘son’ is a trans girl]? Their child is expressing themself as femme, for sure, but they could be a cis girl, a trans boy, nonbinary, a GNC cis boy, like so many options. Assuming based on appearance makes the same mistake you think the parent is making. What if they’re a trans boy and the parent is being affirming?

The joke is very simple, and is the same regardless of the child’s gender.

The dad is saying that the child can be whatever they want to be, while holding things that show he has his own specific preferences that do not align with the child’s preferences.

That’s the joke, that the dad’s actions instantly betray that he’s lying and has some sort of agenda when approaching this innocent child who likely has no agenda.

Dad wants his son to do traditional boy things (suggested by the ball/bat/truck toys he’s holding). The little boy obviously has some gender jealousy/disphoria (not sure about correct terminology) as suggested by the hair style, pink clothing, and(?) hopscotch.

The joke is that so many kids were told this type of thing growing up ‘you can do/be anything you want to be,’ but many/most of them wouldn’t be accepting of this type of behavior/choices.

‘You can be anything you want to be (except a transgender/girl).’

This is explosm. They don’t do the level of subtle distinctions you’re talking about.

I mean it does in the context of it’s their comic so whatever they wanted it to be is correct

But they’re progressive so whatever it is I highly doubt it’s anti trans. My reading of it is that it’s a trans girl
