Ever since Sumas flooded, every rain storm is an AtMoSpHeRiC RiVeR.
Term has been around a while
“The term was originally coined by researchers Reginald Newell and Yong Zhu of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the early 1990s to reflect the narrowness of the moisture plumes involved.”
.But yes, I guess the news has started using it more now.
Or maybe ( I legit don’t know ) it’s happening more often than before so we’re seeing it more?
Itd be interesting to see the statistics of how many events happened each year since the 90s
Even if it really is the media just using it more now and it hasn’t changed in a meaningful way, that’d be great to know.
This link explains it pretty well. It’s a specific thing, in terms of size, impact, etc, and is occurring much more, and in much larger size, as climate change moves along.
