So much apologizing and stepping down all over the world. How about, I don’t know, consequences? That’s what literally every other human being alive would get for 1/1000th of what these people have allegedly participated in. And at this point I don’t think anybody cares about name or status except for those with name and status.

Remember when politicians resigned just for being accused of having an affair? Like a traditional one, with a consenting adult of the opposite sex.

Stepping down is still more than most people are doing. I agree we need harsher penalties for this heinous shit, but it only seems individuals foreign to the States are doing ANYTHING in the wake of the files half-release.

Yeah in the US they are just saying “So what? What’re you gonna do about it?” and just walking away. It’s kinda sad that the corruption goes so deep in the US that there isn’t even one decent person willing to do the right thing. Sure, the US congress is doing the bare minimum, but besides that it’s literally crickets from everyone that’s been named and they’re just carrying on like normal.

One of the grotesqueries is that even if we had a non-corrupt administration, prosecutors overwhelmingly bring charges that they’re certain they can win - and anything, any small thing, anything that could be argued to be a reasonable doubt - can sink a charge. The justice system in this country is overflowing with cases, and the longer one goes on, the longer the next must wait, which means there is a preference for ‘clean’ cases that can be settled quickly as well.

… and the rich are very empowered to hire lawyers who are good at provoking ‘reasonable’ doubt in a jury and drawing out and stalling legal proceedings.

If it was a handful of rich twats (and the incredibly corrupt head of state/cult leader wasn’t among them - or at least wasn’t the head of state/cult leader), we might see some justice. With so many, and every one of them endangering the others?

They’ll fight tooth and claw, they’ll all back each other up for fear of a weak link bringing them all down, and because of that, they’ll probably win in court, and all that will happen is a lot of fucking wasted time. Not trying to justify the enduring failure to make arrests and bring charges, mind, just pointing out how the issue is even worse than just a bunch of corrupt fuckwads in government.

          The structure itself is fucked.
