Wonder if Larson was cognizant that Viking-age crews were ethnically diverse and (with Islamic coins having been found in Viking graves) likely to have sailors from the Middle East, including Arab Vikings possibly named Omar, or if he got Omar mixed up with Olaf.

Coins doesn’t necessarily mean that there were Middle-Eastern crewmembers though. We know the Norse traded with Arab merchants on the markets of Central- and Eastern Europe, but they were also just really desireable currency for basically everyone in Europe at the time on account of their valuable metal content.
