Good in the sense that you don’t have open your mouth to talk to people anymore.
finally
You shut your mouth when you’re talking to me
It’s an accessibility feature. So for anyone that is about to lose their voice I think it’s a good thing.
MKBHD made a youtube short demoing it. iOS 17 Personal Voice demo.

Good news for disabled people who are unable to speak at times or are loosing their ability to speak. They can now speak with a computer voice that sounds more like their own.
So they keep track of your heart rate, location, and schedule, got your thumb print years ago, scanned your face, can predict your choice in words, and will soon replicate your voice. Nothing nefarious, no reason to worry.
I have the beta, the model is generated over night locally on your own phone and stored there. It doesn’t need internet connection to create. In fact I didn’t have network connection when I tested it in beta.
Installed the iOS 17 Beta to try this, the option is not there. Not sure what they’re talking about. There’s no option underneath “Live Speech” in the Accessibility menu.
Specifically on iPhone 13 Pro - iOS17 Beta 2
Ah, the article really should have specified that this is only available on certain hardware, and not all iPhones.
