Afghan regime’s return to public stoning and flogging is because there is ‘no one to hold them accountable’ for abuses, say activists

I’m starting to think these Taliban fellas are bad news.

“You may call it a violation of women’s rights when we publicly stone or flog them for committing adultery because they conflict with your democratic principles,” he said, adding: “[But] I represent Allah, and you represent Satan.”

Satan has a far better human rights record, so yeah, I’m with him on this one.

I disagree. Religion is the medium. The true disease is narcissism and psychopathy on one end, and apathy on the other. Individuals with considerable traits of either/both use religion to gain power and manipulate others to further their Machiavellian goals, just like they use any system that concentrates power and control. Others either tolerate, embrace, or even encourage it.

I disagree. Religion tells people how to act. We can see this through thousands of years.

I think you might be missing the point. Religion isn’t an autonomous being that created itself. Religion, and the guidance it provides, was made by narcissistic and psychopathic people to manipulate others. Again, it’s the medium used for control, but not the controlling entity.

What you’re talking about (the narcissists that can manipulate it) is the vast minority. For the vast majority, they take its dictations and let it control their life. Whatever it says goes. Religion didn’t create itself, but it is now its own being which dictates to people. Most people don’t have the capacity to question it.

“Now, no one is standing beside them to save them from Taliban punishments. The international community has chosen to remain silent in the face of these violations of women’s rights.”

“It should be western supplied and operated drones slaughtering innocent civilians instead”

The implication here is obviously that they support more genocidal intervention policies on behalf of imperialist powers that will ultimately result in for more violence than whatever the Taliban is currently doing.

This is all because the CIA flooded the country with fundamentalist propaganda back in the 80s and it has spilled over into other parts of the region as well.

The source claims that this was to spur “resistance to Soviet Occupation” but the Soviets were merely aiding the social democratic Kabul government at their behest to combat reactionary anti-socialist groups that were small but preexisting.

What this obfuscates is that what people commonly know as the Soviet Afghan war did not become a war until after those fundamentalist elements took power with the help of the CIA and Saudis and the secular left wing democratically elected government was deposed/defunct.
