Go drive/walk by your local police station and note all the plates of unmarked cars in the area. Many of them are likely police vehicles or private vehicles of employees. Do the same near a courthouse. Use those as fodder for this tool.

Granted it’s been 30-something years since I graduated with my CS degree, but my experience might be helpful. My first job out of college ended up being in tech support for a software company, and I used that to eventually move into software development. During my 2 years in tech support I learned what I could about the source code for the companies product, and built relationships with members of the engineering team. It got to the point where I could carry on conversations with some of the software developers to identify potential causes of bugs that customers were running into.

Because of the relationships I made with the software engineers they eventually recognized my skills and one of the managers eventually helped me transition from tech support into a software developer position.

So start feeding it lots of random 2 to 8 letter/number strings.

I don’t know if this incident involved Flock or a competing product, but John Oliver recently described an incident on his show that demonstrates one of the major issues with this technology.

Apparently an ALPR reported a “hit” on the license plate of an SUV in a shopping center parking lot. The vehicle was reported stolen. So a half dozen or so police performed a felony arrest of the woman in the car along with a number of family members, including small children.

The problem was that while the letters & numbers on the license plate matched, the actual stolen vehicle was a motorcycle from a completely different state. So if any of those half-dozen cops had bothered to confirm even one additional detail about the stolen vehicle then this wouldn’t have happened.

How will Flock improve their technology so that police actually do more than the bare minimum when being told of an ALPR “hit”?

Matthew 6:5-6 states “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”. One star for not obeying the Bible.

Boston already has a very robust parking enforcement division that aggressively tickets things like expired meters, parking in resident-only areas without a current resident sticker, etc. They also regularly ticket & tow cars when street sweeping is scheduled. It would be trivial for them to add this to their enforcement activities.

So they both kill each other then commit suicide? Kind of like all those Russians who shoot themselves in the back before falling out of windows?

Last one was when I was the victim. Driving down a 4 lane highway in an SUV with my wife in moderate traffic when we heard tires screeching about 1/2 a second before being hit in the rear corner. We ended up spinning 360 degrees across 3 lanes of the highway in a matter of a couple seconds. How we weren’t hit by any other cars I have no idea. It was the scariest few seconds of my life.

The other driver was ultimately arrested for DUI.

End up with no empathy? He had no empathy when he was just a gleam in daddies eye…

Heck, if energy density is an issue the use this initially for grid storage, home solar, etc. where a larger size isn’t a huge deal. That would increase existing lithium ion supplies for EVs.

I found an infographic a number of years ago that listed the numbers of indictments & convictions by each presidential administration since Nixon. I think over 90% were Republicans.

I’ve never seen a Waymo in person but I’ve seen plenty of edge cases while driving that I wonder how any self driving car would handle it.

Just one recent example: I was at a red traffic light crossing another road that had virtually no visibility to the right due to thick vegetation. Just as the light turned green I heard the sirens of approaching fire trucks from the direction where I couldn’t see. I waited, and didn’t actually see them until they were about 20 feet from the intersection. My gut feeling is that pretty much any self driving car would have seen the green light and then driven right into the path of those approaching emergency vehicles. And what would have happened next? Would the self driving car have slammed on the brakes once it saw the fire trucks? Would it have just continued, forcing the fire trucks to stop?

Only thing missing is a line of babushkas stretching around the block.

I bet he successfully grifted at least that much for himself & his family.

Well pretty much the equivalent, but with little to no fire suppression.

I know a guy who is a huge Elon supporter and loved his Cybertruck. He got rid of it because of all the heckling he got over it, and didn’t want his young kids to deal with it. Now he drives a Rivian.

VPNs are too complex for non-technical people. I used to work in IT for a big university. When I managed the installation of a large research cluster they insisted it be publicly accessible so that traveling professors, etc. would have easy access to it. Long story short, I found it had been compromised by an IP address in China within hours of it being on-line.

Years ago I worked with a guy who had a roughly 20 mile commute that was about 19 miles on a major highway that choked during rush hour. He worked from home in the early morning then drove in starting after 10:00. He’d then head home around 6:00 PM or later. He said traffic was almost always light.

He also never listened to traffic reports on TV or the radio. One day he got on the highway and was surprised to find traffic was virtually non-existent. He got about half way to the office to find the highway had been completely shut down due to a fuel tanker that was on fire…

Reminds me of back in the day when I worked in various data centers that had Man-traps for controlling access. I could see them being upgraded to release one of these on you if you failed to properly authenticate when inside one.
