Oh I agree, I’m just explaining my rationale to the other poster. Even when I posted the original image, I knew I’d end up with a comment like that.

61·4 days agoAn independent candidate aligning with Trump? Mamdani is the democratic candidate, and is a far better example of a progressive to support than Platner.

116·4 days agoAmazing how you use a blackwater mercenary saying they joined the military to kill people as a means of calling the dems elitists. Truly Trumpian.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Graham Platner said he joined the marines to kill people, and had an excellent experience doing so.
61·4 days agoHe hasn’t won the primary. It’s still a year away. The reason the left is attacking (or at least some of us) is because we don’t want a blackwater mercenary on the democratic ticket. The reason the right haven’t attacked him yet is because they’d love for him to be the candidate since he’s so easy to target, after the primaries. I’d imagine all the news corps owned by right wingers already have the real juicy reddit quotes lined up and waiting.

politics @lemmy.world•I Thought Graham Platner Was Finished. What I Saw in Maine Changed My Mind.
310·6 days agoSeems pretty obvious. He’s admitted to making racist, anti-semetic, anti-gay, and anti-trans statements. And yet he refuses to back down after admitting to all of that somehow shows his ‘character.’
The guy has a litany of reasons to not support him, or trust him. A pile of reasons to think he is of bad character and morals. But ‘he tells it like is,’ so y’all refuse to condemn him. Sounds like Trump supporters to me, always denying his previous transgressions and saying you believe he’s gonna turn it around.

politics @lemmy.world•Senate vote on nullifying tariffs on Canada demonstrates opposition to Trump's trade policy
51·7 days agoI know he’ll just ignore it anyway, I’m just referring to the fact that he has veto power to override a resolution on cancelling tariffs at all. Although I’d imagine it’s really that congress is just ceding the power in the first place, but having legislation about tariffs being something that can be vetoed seems like a dumb idea.

politics @lemmy.world•Senate vote on nullifying tariffs on Canada demonstrates opposition to Trump's trade policy
11·7 days agoHowever, House Republicans have passed new rules that allow leaders to prevent such resolutions from getting a vote in that chamber, and Trump could veto the legislation even if it did clear Congress.
Ignoring the issue of the House being unwilling to pass it, how can the President veto a resolution on tariffs when that is a duty of congress and not the executive? He shouldn’t be able to impose them in the first place, but it’s legal for him to block their cancellation? Amazed this country lasted as long as it has.
