41·3 hours agonon-standard ssh port is actually a pretty good security measure. there are thousands of automated tools just hammering the standard ports of every ip they can reach, and if you have password auth enabled they’ll get in eventually.

Europe@feddit.org•Mistral invests 1.2€ billion in data centres in SwedenEnglish
9·3 hours agowe do. this datacenter is in my backyard, as is four hydro plants. we don’t have an energy deficit, we just don’t have the infrastructure to move the energy to where it needs to be. thus, datacenter in random small town.
it’s insane that they don’t because sweden has basically the exact same program.
car guys also want less cars on the road.

Programming@programming.dev•Lua Tables - The Swiss Army Knife of Data Structures
16·1 day agoi think the most interesting design detail of lua tables is just glossed over as “nil-holes” in this article. namely, that nil values do not exist. there is no
table.delete(key)method, you just zero out the value and the key stops existing. the same thing is true for any variable, if you set it to nil it ceases to be. i find that implementation fascinating.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•i just realised i might have an instinctive need to "yes, and".
2·1 day agowell they do reciprocate in that they respond, but the conversation is not furthered which is what bothers me. it’s like asking what someone’s working on and them answering “stuff”.

2·1 day agoperhaps, but it does feel like empty words in that case. that may be why people don’t reciprocate.

1·1 day agoeverything i see about improv groups is usually forced improv, where the “yes and” is taken literally (as in added to every sentence) and it’s really cringe-inducing.
also it’s not really a thing here.

1·1 day agothat’s a fair take. it could be learned behaviour from uni, where every sentence was a joke.
it could also stem from an unwillingness to share personal stuff, i guess.

3·2 days agoi mean conversations are usually devoid of references, which is why i think it sticks out so much. if i’m in a reference-heavy conversation i’m most likely talking to them about a niche topic where knowledge of references, and therefore the basis of those references, is assumed. maybe i’m subconsciously judging them as “not in the know”?
this is obviously stream-of-conscience, but… am i mentally gatekeeping people?
