I actually agree with you, why would I want to text on an itty birth screen. Nevertheless, despite all my efforts, I can’t seem to get myself to switch to those short voice memos you can send in Signal and similar apps. My brother is a pro with those, but it just feels odd to me.
I remember having only 200 SMS per month and having to ration them carefully because the plans were structured in a way where ordering more resulted in a big price jump.

Does this have a heat overlay? As in, can I see which routes I take most commonly my filtering and overlaying a years worth of data? That’s the only thing that’s kept me on Strava. I know there are a few open source tools, but nothing has looked this complete for me. This looks super cool.
I also imagine a world without copyright may not be any worse than the one we’re in. In a lot of ways it would probably be much better.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be as upset if the playing field was level. Alright, you can slurp up and remix the world’s works, but so can anyone, for any reason, for free. Personally, I think use restrictions should only target commercial use, but I’m sure that’s a much more divisive topic. We have a law that is not being applied to those most likely to abuse it at scale.

I definitely see some of this happening, but as a tall rider, going from 26" to 29" tires was fantastic. It felt like I was finally riding a mountain bike meant for someone my size. I didn’t buy it for the 32" hype though. It just happened to be what felt right after test riding a bunch of bikes I didn’t like. I also test rode a “mulleto” (at least I think that’s what it’s called when a bike has mismatched wheel sizes) and it came a close second but it was from the same manufacturer as another bike of mine and I try to spread myself around.
South Park satirized the whole AI thing pretty well. I recommend those episodes. I remember all the stories about teachers using AI to grade papers. It reminds me of a teacher I had who claimed to grade papers by throwing them down the stairs and grading based on how far they went!
Yeah, if running AI took a fancy graphics card and some basic scripting knowledge, a lot of the short cutters would get filtered out right away. I’d rather write a four page paper than struggle to get a strange piece of software working on a deadline and I’m a tech-adjacent Linux enthusiast. The commercialization of AI is the problem: the fact that they’re preying on people’s desire to stand out, to be exceptional, to get positive social feedback, to succeed in the hierarchy, to make their over-packed lives easier, etc. Open-source Academic AI would have had a some of the same issues, like being coopted by governments, but in general I think things would be magnitudes less terrible.
I appreciate your last point about stolen data. I appreciated it from a marketing/intelligence/propaganda point-of-view, and you from the ownership/intellectual property point of view, but we ended up in really similar places.

I’m excited to see what they do with Motorola as it would be nice to pick up something newer and have my current Graphene device for backup/travel in case prices ever go wild like they seemingly have for every other piece of tech. Honestly, there’s not much reason not to run Graphene because, privacy aside, the user experience is significantly deslopified and much better than stock.
