My biggest frustration is not that Trump won, it’s that as best i can tell these things are not even penetrating into the infosphere of maga. They are not only gleefully celebrating what they think he’s doing, they are also seemingly completely ignorant of what they surely must not realize he’s doing.
Because it follows the same path he did with the last tax breaks: More money for the rich, less for the rest.
Not a single maga ever believed me when I told them that, and they won’t believe it now either.
Their heads are so far up Trump’s ass they know what he has for dinner.
And yes, it is samba, but it’s the only thing I’ve used since it was set like that at default. Why would I look into other ways if it’s working just fine, exactly?
Nothing other than your own personal preference. Across a wide variety of contexts I personally find less headaches with SFTP, but YMMV. There are security and speed arguments, but IIRC there is a lot of variance to those arguments depending on how modern the SMB implementation is and how it’s config’d.
I have no idea why you can’t save your PW, I’ve done it this way since at least 2013, under several distros, on several different hardware setups, and have never had an issue having dolphin save my PW.
Are you in the “I disabled the KDE wallet because I wasn’t sure how to make it not annoying” crowd? It used to be much harder to work with. (I don’t even know if that’s the likely reason you have to keep putting your PW in, but I do use KDE wallet, and I never have to put mine in after initial setup in dolphin.)
Linux - Open Dolphin (or whatever) > Network > Add Network Folder/Find it > Enter creds > Does not automatically mount the drive when booting the computer back up > Must go into fstab to get it to automount > Stop, because that is ridiculous
I put into the dolphin path sftp://myusername@remoteip.address. Then I give it my password, and check the box to save it. Then I right click any folder in the destination and do “add to places” and in the future I just navigate to it like a local folder.
I guess I’m supposed to do it a harder way? I’ve done essentially the same but with smb:// when forced to work with a samba share like an animal.
This is it for the curious:
This is just related:
First “Violent” undocumented immigrants.
Then “Non-Violent” undocumented immigrants.
Then trans people?
Then documented but deemed undesirable immigrants?
Maybe citizens who have done the worst possible crimes?
Citizens who disagree too loudly with Trump or Musk?
When do you suppose they’ll build the next camp?
When do you suppose they’ll get to “the gays” or “the blacks?”
When will they get to your neighbor? Or to you?
When will it finally be enough for those who voted to put him in power? Ever?

Remember folks, it doesn’t have to be the year, it only has to be your year.
Mine was about 19 years ago. I’m no genius, and I haven’t regretted it once. Linux has come a long way since then, while windows is deep in the enshittification trenches now, and has been for years. Your YOTLD can start today if you want it to. Tired of being actively abused by your OS? We’ve been here all along.
And if you are happy where you are, that’s fine too.
Thanks! This topic is a sticky one, it’s easy to get angry (and I have) when everyone has good intentions and those good intentions seem to conflict. I’ve probably been a jerk about it in the past, and in the moment I might be again in the future, but I try to see where folks are coming from when I can.
Nobody claims that WW2 was because of voters
Maybe if folks had been shamed into not supporting the Nazis and their hollow, superficial, hateful “solutions” we wouldn’t even have an example with such obvious and clear parallels to draw upon.
Nobody claims that WW2 was because of voters, that the Poland invasion was because of the soldiers
Nobody should be (or seems to have been) fucking absolved for handing their nation to fascists, either.

Little reminder: Those people you are alienating, those as per your and Lemmy judgement “Nazi, racists, uneducated, homophobic, traitors, fascists, unethical, uncompassionate and misogynistic” are voters with as much rights as you have to decide the course of the nation
Yep. They sure do. And I’m judging them for the direction they have chosen.
How is it whenever anyone makes a post like this, it’s “ZOMG don’t alienate the magas.” Do you suppose there are folks who care enough about unity to tell the magas maybe they shouldn’t alienate all the non-magas in their lives? Do you tell magas that? I have multiple neighbors who had signs in their yard for YEARS proclaiming Biden voters or Democrats as traitors, morons, etc as they adjusted the mix of their handwritten signs every so often.
Seems to me they have spent the past several years alienating me. Seems to me they have voted for policies and politicians that are explicitly intending to harm anyone who isn’t a white cisthet man. That includes quite a lot of groups that neither me nor anyone near me is a member of, but also includes groups that my children, my wife, and for that matter, a great many Trump voters themselves comprise.
And it seems to me that, just like when there was a bully in school as a kid, it’s somehow the victim always asked to be the bigger person, not the bully. That was horseshit then, and it’s horseshit now.
I mean in the sense that these are the standard blue collar, hard workers of the country. Those plumbers, electricians, waste disposal, street sweepers, truck drivers, and so on
Ask me about my background. (no don’t, but also don’t assume I’ve never been one of these people and can’t identify with where they are coming from)
Somehow the party with the worst record towards unions and labor has convinced all many of the folks with union jobs that they will save them, and that they’ll do so with a bsuinessman at the head of the country with a reputation for not paying his bills. And I should sympathize with that?
I reject your scolding and premise at the most fundamental possible level.
These people have spent more than the past 8 years being the loudest, rudest, most hateful group in any venue. On a personal level, we have avoided family gatherings to not have to listen to their shit, though somehow we eventually end up hearing it anyway. The policies they support obviously and openly hurt anyone not like them, and a very large percentage of the time they hurt themselves also. They are currently loudly cheering as our nation and government are being actively dismantled by the man they voted for.
I have nothing left for these people but to keep anyone and anything I care about as far out of their path and notice as possible, and hope that 5 years from now we can be arguing about this and not decaying in a mass grave someplace after they work their way down the “First they came for” ladder until finally they find something my family needs to be sent to a camp for.
The laws will surely stop him this time. /s
(Not that I’m not glad they are making the gesture.)
That’s OK!
I have so far seen zero evidence that anything Trump does will convince his voters that he’s the evil shitstain he is, so what I’m not in favor of is the futility of trying to convince anyone, when 8 years of reality and headlines have failed to do the same. I have magas in my family and they will perform literally any gymnastics necessary to absolve Trump of guilt for anything he’s done.
So yeah, if basing my opinions off of the evidence I’m surrounded by daily makes me misanthropic, then sure, you can call me that if it makes you feel happy.
Yeah, I ended up going with a block anyhow. They may be legit carrying separate, distinct views in their head, but it was already feeling a little self contradictory by the time we were a couple layers deeper.
I’m not having that argument again. I understand the position that they were equally bad, and I support the rights of folks who couldn’t vote for either of them because of that. But while I do acknowledge that US imperialism is not just a meme, I had to work with what I was given, and that was bad or less bad. I chose less bad.
I respect that others saw it differently and that’s all I have to say on the matter.
Does it mean something other than what is here, or did I miss something offensive in skimming through the entry?
This isn’t one of those lame “now they are the machine” posts is it?
