Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•AMD APUs, like the one that Steam Deck has, might get FSR 4 support next year thanks to the tech expanding beyond discreet top-of-the-line GPUs
1·3 天前Optiscaler (with Windows games) also works if you need further tweaks or run into compatibility issues with the Proton level support.

2·3 天前It’s possible this official release will have increased performance/quality, but even now it’s often better than the alternatives, on balance.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Sony Seemingly Ends VR Ambitions by Selling Patents to MetaEnglish
14·4 天前Feels like Sony has gone full “bean counter” mode in the last year or so. Maybe because of the AI bubble and the general state of the economy, but could also be due to changes in leadership.

Virtual Reality@lemmy.world•Pimax Aims to Take on Steam Frame with New 'Crystal Pro' Headset, Priced at $1,400English
5·5 天前Nice display specs, at least in theory, but unless it’s bootloader unlocked and fully open, I wouldn’t put much trust in its long term viability. A device like this with SteamOS would make a nice upgrade to the Frame, however.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame][Discussion] Recommended FREE VR apps for Steam Frame
3·8 天前I don’t have a Frame yet, so can’t confirm or deny. But The Lab was initially supported in the “Great on Frame” program, but Valve later removed it suggesting it has issues.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame][Discussion] Recommended FREE VR apps for Steam Frame
3·9 天前It’s unsupported for the moment. Often older VR games tend to have compatibility issues, but I do hope this gets sorted out as it’s a nice intro to VR.
Does work on Linux PCVR at the least: https://db.vronlinux.org/games/450390.html
Since the Frame uses pancake lenses, it is much more forgiving of IPD compared to fresnel lenses (the older, more common type). So it’s probably just expectations, although you might have an IPD that is outside the range (there are ways to physically measure this).

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame][Discussion] Recommended FREE VR apps for Steam Frame
4·9 天前I’d be interested to see what free Android/Quest APKs work, as that’s the big unknown here. Windows and Linux apps should work the same as they do on SteamVR on a Linux PC, excepting the Frame specific ports and performance differences.
It’s interesting that an unset region for the dongle causes issues, as it has generally not been a problem with wifi adapters in the past for me. Must be something specific to this adapter, or it’s interaction with the Frame.
EDIT: It seems that 6GHz is disabled in the world domain, according to this NixOS wiki article, so that would explain the benefit of setting the region.

instead should also work, although you’d still need to make those extra packages accessible, one way or another.
Another cool thing is that they apparently work very well in the dark. Other headsets with inside-out tracking either lose tracking completely in the dark, or don’t work as well.

Virtual Reality@lemmy.world•Arcturus Vision Steam Frame Add-on Review – A Literal Night and Day DifferenceEnglish
5·12 天前The Steam Frame isn’t an AR headset and it makes little sense to pretend it is.
It’s a Linux PC, so it will become whatever people want it to become.
Do I personally care about AR all that much? Not really, but I’m sure the community that does will start porting and building whatever they can.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Nobody talked about the most useless feature of the Steam Frame
5·13 天前Jellyfin should work for sure, although probably not with 3D support if you want/need that. It’s just a Linux PC after all.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Frame dongle troubleshooting tool
12·13 天前This is a tool from Valve for identifying issues with the dongle when streaming from Linux PCs.
Right, but there isn’t really a good alternative, as shitty as it is. And I don’t think relying on slop generators is a good alternative

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[WiVRn] Steam frame support pull request
10·15 天前This is an alternative to Steam Link for streaming from Linux desktop PCs to the Frame. Only for advanced Linux users for now as it requires compiling from source with the above PR and installing on the Frame, as well as configuring the Linux PC host to use WiVRn (which itself can be a little bit involved). See the Linux VR Adventures Wiki for details for configuring it on the host.
But it looks like it is already working well. And by the time most people have their Frames, the PR should be in the latest WiVRn version and so provide an alternative to Steam Link.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame] Disappointed in the store experience. Bad showing for the SO
12·16 天前I’ll add: https://db.vronlinux.org/
It’s more about the support on a Linux PC host, but there is likely some overlap for SteamVR compatibility with standalone support.
I think you’re missing a link as there just looks to be an image and nothing else.

I interpret the queue as having an actual ranking to it, whereas the waitlist does not. So if you’re in the queue, you have some unknown position in the order. If you’re in the waitlist, it’s just an unordered list where you have a random chance of being periodically added to the end of the queue.
As an anti-scalping measure it has some value since people who got in early would have a large advantage otherwise, but perhaps the queue itself is a bit too long and should have been restricted to something close to “definitely coming this year”.
