I’m not going to believe that without evidence. However, if real, solid evidence of that scenario came to light, it would not surprise me one bit.

that also makes you susceptible to confirmation bias. remain vigilant and objective. not preaching to you specifically but everyone here.

I just knew that someone was gonna bring up confirmation bias, and of course, it had to be you.

Why do I have to be right all the time???

        Aaaaaand scene

          “had to be you”

          do I know you?

also, as I said, “not preaching to you specifically but everyone here.” You knew someone would bring it up, because it is an important point to keep in mind. Wasn’t trying to dunk on you, chill the fuck out.

            do I know you?

Not that I know of, but I enjoy getting to know new people! Other than receiving an ambiguous reply that led to miscommunications from a farting photographer, how’s your day going?

not preaching to you specifically but everyone here

I’m not the user you replied to. I’m just some asshole who thought it would entertain other users (and hopefully you) if I strung together a bunch of statements that somewhat exemplify confirmation bias.

Wasn’t trying to dunk on you

            You should have SLAMMED me

            chill the fuck out

            I REFUSE!

that also makes you susceptible to confirmation bias.

        “Don’t have expectations!”

No. I refuse. I expect people to piss and moan about every little silly thing as they destroy the world. I expect people to blame everyone but themselves as they realise their descendants are going to have to endure unliveable conditions. And then I expect the human race to dwindle and expire.

        I’m keeping my expectations.

that is not at all the point. the point is to be aware of your expectations, really examine new evidence objectively, and make sure you’re not accepting it just because it feels good.

You’re not wrong. I do my best every day to assess information as it stands, and I am definitely skeptical of something I see reported in only one place. If it seems like it could be legitimate, I want to see additional and extensive reporting on it from multiple journalistic outlets.

I care very much about the alignment of what I believe and reality. I have watched a close friend devolve into conspiratorial thought (not politically, thankfully), come out of it, and then fall down again. I’ve been in that same kind of mental decline in my own past, but medication and conscious effort go a long way. It’s still work, every day, but it’s the kind of work I am happy to do.

I kinda disagree since they said “non-zero”. They’re not really making a claim, so I don’t really think they need evidence. Pretty much everything has a non-zero chance
