The teachings on the ideology of China’s leader are encased in a new subject now mandatory for secondary students, Citizenship, Economics and Society, first announced in 2022.

Hong Kong has introduced Xi Jinping Thought as a new addition to the curriculum for some students.

Xi has been the president of the People’s Republic of China since 2013.

The new school year began in Hong Kong this week.

The changes come alongside more lessons about national security and pro-Beijing patriotism, as the influence and control of China’s ruling Communist party increases in the semi-autonomous city, The Guardian reported.

The teachings on the ideology of China’s leader are encased in a new subject now mandatory for secondary students, Citizenship, Economics and Society, first announced in 2022.

[…]

The new module instils “patriotic education” for all three years of secondary students, and its content is aimed at “cultivating students’ sense of nationhood, affection for our country and sense of national identity”, according to government-issued curriculum guidelines. Third form students are expected to learn about Xi Jinping Thought in a module on “our country’s political structure and participation in international affairs”. The guidelines recommend teachers spend 12 40-minute lessons on the module.

Xi’s personal political philosophy, officially called “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”, was enshrined in China’s constitution in 2018. In 2021 it was introduced into mainland Chinese schools. The Xi teachings in the mainland curriculum appear on available information to be far more comprehensive that those introduced to Hong Kong. However it has still sparked alarm among some parents and citizens.

Hong Kong school enrolments have declined sharply in recent years, driven by low birthrates and an exodus of residents and expats in the wake of the crackdown on the pro-democracy movement and the imposition of tighter, pro-CCP social controls.

Imagine it’s not about politics or economics; it’s just random shit he thinks each day:

“Damn, I really want to scratch myself with his Fork”

“Hehe that man looks like a Frog”

“I really really need to fart right now.”

“I know this gives me mad gas, but I really want that pork chop”

“I bet I could throw that Kid like a Football”

And on the other side, Donald Trump owns a social network, and yet no shit storm.

How the fuck did ethics become so asymmetric?

        @NaibofTabr@infosec.pub

Whataboutism? Apart from the fact that it has nothing to do with the linked article, there has been a lot of, say, ‘not too positive’ reports about Trump’s social network.

Well my comment was a response to the comment above, not to the article, and in the context of “Kamala’s Thoughts” it is relevant.

ravhall’s point is good, that if a Democrat tried to share their ideology this way the response would be overwhelmingly negative. But on the other hand, we have “Truth Social” which might as well be labeled “Trump’s Thoughts” because he uses it as his personal soapbox. Political candidates owning social media companies should be illegal.

Because it’s a tiny echo chamber not worth the effort.

Twitter, on the other hand, is still widely used by the majority of nonfascist legacy media and other people who are hugely influential and should know better.

I mean at this point anything goes. You know that if you have a layover in Hong Kong, they changed the law to be able to arrest you at the airport if you expressed dissident thought anytime in the past?

They all but destroyed free expression if it criticizes government. Just another t1 mainland city now. And with it, the outflux of FDI, because there is no confidence in cult of personality leaders who are also conniving.

So they’re teaching kids how to get slave labour by “reeducating” an ethnic minority?

Assuming this is sarcasm, I’m fine with being reminded of the CCP’s continuing disregard for international law, basic law of HK, and their pissing all over the joint declaration. Whether or not we saw it coming, its bad for the people of HK, China and the world. And it hasn’t been two decades since the regression got underway with this current clique of psychopaths anyway. Things were somewhat optimistic 10 years ago on both sides of the border. There were concerns, but the agreed arrangement which they’ve now torn up in order to turn HK into a dystopia, was working. Unfortunately positive human development is incompatible with insecure authoritarians. All of these developments are sad.
