Yes, but 50 rounds are more likely to be hit than just 1. And if you put them in a spot that’s going to be shot at a lot, say the turret, you’re less likely to walk away from a penetrating hit.
The ammo carousel is there below the floor below the turret I guess these guys had more rounds to spare.

Is there a safe number of rounds to have cook off in the fighting compartment? I’d have thought the outcome of one or fifty would be the same.

50 are also more likely to have one among them with some manufacturing defect or one that is affected by any other problem you could run into.
