I submit that you definitely stayed in the “nice” areas. I’ve been there many times. The crime rates and infrastructure decay there is … well known. A friend of mine (who can’t afford the “nice areas” but who is by no means poor) was robbed and had her car broken into her first week there. The problems have continued since. My sister also lived there 20 years ago. It’s only gotten worse.
