Under the bill, the Treasury secretary would issue notice to a group of intent to designate it as a “terrorist supporting organization.” Once notified, an organization would have the right to appeal within 90 days, after which it would be stripped of its 501©(3) status, named for the statute that confers tax exemptions on recognized nonprofit groups.

The law would not require officials to explain the reason for designating a group, nor does it require the Treasury Department to provide evidence.

“It basically empowers the Treasury secretary to target any group it wants to call them a terror supporter and block their ability to be a nonprofit,” said Ryan Costello, policy director at the National Iranian American Council Action, which opposes the law. “So that would essentially kill any nonprofit’s ability to function. They couldn’t get banks to service them, they won’t be able to get donations, and there’d be a black mark on the organization, even if it cleared its name.”

      Hi.

      Democrats have cosponsored this bill.

Trump takes office on the 20th of January.

      Joe Biden is president.

      Kamala Harris is vice president.

Thank you for proving that I am right. And you are wrong.

C’mon lib go slide for kdolf if it means that much to you

Like deadass, if you really think this is “crossing the rubicon”, if you really think being ruled over by the same kind of white man that has held the reins of this country EVERY YEAR SINCE THE SETTLER-COLONY’S ‘INDEPENDENCE’ EXCEPT FOR EIGHT OF THEM is such a bad thing now, then why aren’t you sliding for your collaborating homies? Why aren’t you building a formation?

Slide, cracker. Do it, you won’t do shit. Fuck, at least the actual brownshirts that y’all plan to “peacefully transfer power to” will slide when they feel wronged; you TEMU-assed motherfuckers are so spineless in comparison. We told you this would happen, and you failed to prepare for it; so let’s see what you plan to do about it. Let’s see you pretend to progressive bonafides now that the man that you fear came back.

There are absolutely differences between the two, but both R and D are sponsoring this bill.

“The current version — which was introduced by Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., and co-sponsored by Brad Schneider, D-Ill., and Dina Titus, D-Nev. . …”

Harris ran a shit campaign and paid the price. It’s no one’s fault but hers and the Democratic Party’s as a whole.

Her biggest mistake was being honest. She didn’t lie on difficult issues by saying she’d fix it in 24 hours, she didn’t tell one thing to a group and the direct contradiction to another group, she didn’t scapegoat a minority to rile up the population.

“The most pro-labor/union presidential candidate ever”

          Lies like this?

I don’t remember her saying “I’m the most pro-union presidential candidate in the history of the planet!”

But she did have good relations with most union leaders, yes 🤣

This is me having a gallows humor moment and pointing and laughing at all the dipshits who were INSISTING that D and R were the same and “both fascist parties”.

No the fuck they were not. One party was stupid, ineffectual, detached from reality and the citizenry, and very far up their own asses. The other party wants to turn Congress into the Duma and give the presidency (that they just won) powers roughly analogous to what Putin has. There is a fucking difference. Refusing to see the difference doesn’t magically make it not real.

    Great!

Let’s see… Black Lives Matter is an obvious one they’d target. ACLU - less obvious, but definitely going to be in someone’s list. Planned Parenthood, for sure. EFF, because why not? Any international aid group that’s ever helped non-white, non-Christian countries. Definitely certain political action committees, as well as specific religious organizations. And almost assuredly the organizations of competing political parties.

    Just fan-fucking-tastic.
Every part and every player of the U.S. government merrily skipping deeper into fascism by the hour.

I don’t get it. If an organisation loses its tax-exempt status, it will have to pay tax. This would definitely be bad news for the organisation. But how does it ‘kill any nonprofit’s ability to function’? Why would they be unable to get banks to service them or get donations? Is it just hyperbole, or am I missing something?

Why would I, a bank, want to take on the risk of being the facilitating agent in monetary transactions between an org accused of supporting terrorism and theoretical terrorists. Will I, the bank be investigated for being involved with terrorists? I’ll just put a hold on the orgs assets until they are cleared after 90 days, which is probably enough time to kill an org.

My guess, and it’s just a guess, is the intent is to end independent media. PBS and NPR are 90% funded by donations. People won’t donate anymore if they can’t write off the donations, effectively killing them.
