This is news in the same way the McRib is news. Props to Doctor’s Associates Inc. for having a savvy enough PR team to turn a menu price change in the customer’s disfavour into a “story” a local outlet will pick up.

I’m having a hard time imagining that newsroom, though. “Addy, how much do you have on the Subway price-change rumour?”

    https://wgntv.com/news/in-rare-shift-subway-says-its-ditching-coca-cola-products/

Reading this is such a dystopian nightmare of corporate speak:

The partnership with PepsiCo is an exciting milestone in our journey to become America’s favorite place to eat, drink and work

represents two iconic companies coming together to further their commitment to delivering operational excellence and driving breakthrough innovation for consumers

we’re elevating the consumer experience with dynamic beverage and snack offerings

Earlier this year, Subway announced it was ditching Coca-Cola products, effective in 2025.

I dropped major soda brands for the supermarket version. It’s 1/3 of the cost and basically the same thing. $10 for a 12 can pack, fuck off.

Why? It’s tasty and I don’t drink sugar sodas.

I mean do what you want, but its still bad for you in other ways. I dropped soda like a decade ago and I don’t even miss it

Its been a while since I looked into this but from what i remember the acidity and carbonation are bad for your teeth, all the additives and artificial flavors and colors are bad for your kidneys and liver. I haven’t drank the stuff in a while so I don’t have any sources for you, but I would encourage you to talk to a doctor about it

My teeth are in perfect condition, and my doctor is impressed with my health after a recent physical. I think there may be fewer additives and flavors than you recall. The sugar is the bad part. I think most aversion to sugar free soda is based on inconclusive evidence. Seeing as I have a relatively healthy diet otherwise, I don’t feel it is a risky situation.

Now, other chemicals and plastics seeping into the food is another thing entirely, and will only get worse as time goes on and regulations are eliminated.

Yea there are other things like the artificial sweeteners being bad for gut bacteria, but the main thing is the sugar for sure.
