The vast majority of corporate profits in prison are extracted directly from inmates and their families. This compounds the economic disadvantage to the inmate’s community on top of idling a potential earner.
In the US, the poor are a resource for capital to extract and there’s no richer vein of poverty than what runs through the American legal system.
