We have a president that continued it’s reign for three terms in a nation that can only run for two, effectively acted as president for six terms (prime minister and president with executive power), essentially rigged an election where the majority believed that he would lose, and people just don’t pay it any mind! He’s gonna run again! It’s not legal it’s not but fuck you!

Invade Syria, fuck up Kurds, inflate the economy, fuck everyone except the military because god knows only they have the power left to oust him so let’s appease them

Hate crimes aren’t even fucking illegal, they pull it under the rug

It’s over. Even expats that came for the cheap land are leaving. Land is fucking cheap and yet no one owns any land too, no job opportunities in my city, I fucking hate this place, I wanna go abroad man see real civilisation

Oh, I have to play private for six months before I even do that, forced enlistment hahahaha

First: What you are describing is not a “failed state”. It is a fascist state. Failed states are about a lack of government and so forth.

That aside: I’ve definitely noticed a strong social media push to make Turkiye look better than it is. It is fun to read the travel horror stories on reddit and the like and there is always a swarm who will insist that OP is a liar and an idiot if they had a bad experience because of being exploited by local shop owners or just being a woman. Bad time in France? Yeah, that’s France. Bad time in Turkiye? You made a mistake and I actually love it there because of X Y and Z.

At first I figured it was just the sex tourism crowd trying to pretend they aren’t just going to exploit financial crises. But then started to notice it even in politics/news threads.

A lot of Turks have been basically fed the lie that criticising your country is akin to betraying it

So, when it’s criticized even if it’s honest, you’re attacked. Even left wing people who are quite literally communist have this nationalistic sentiment, where the fuck does it come from? Even I feel it actually, it’s actually so fucking insane. But recently I started to just feel different, maybe I just broke the mold but my catch phrase has become ‘I rather die European than a Turk’ and I’ll probably make this catchphrase of mine come true

It shouldn’t be a bad thing to talk bad about your own nation, especially when you want to improve it, but even the left wing can’t accept this and rather built on lies and blame a single person than the system underneath, they use the words of our founder which got immortalised as a political manuever by the right wing to keep a broken system intact

If Atatürk was alive he would curse everyone out, how dare they treat him as if he was a greater than human? How dare they make turkey lesser than even it’s neighbours even though he made it clear that he wished it to aim upwards and come further into relations with Europe

One of the faster growing economies, as much potential as Brazil or Argentina, but like them it was squandered

I got lots of bad fucking blood because it’s been thirty years of the same failures, it barely has changed

I would be economically fucked too if i wasn’t from a richer family, owning land is a rarity

I feel like I’m being driven to extremism with how turkey is reacting to everything, i just hope they won’t starve their own people too
