    Explanation: The Roman Emperor Caligula, widely considered to be a tyrant, and by some to have been mad, once ordered the Roman Legions to ‘make war’ on Neptune, stabbing the tides and collecting seashells as ‘booty’. Clearly he saved us from the might of Neptune, by driving back such a mighty foe!

    Realistically speaking, this may have been intended as a punishment or humiliation for the legions involved, but just as easily could be Caligula’s arbitrary nature, strange sense of humor, or simply flexing his power to reinforce that he was absolute autocrat over all the Empire.
