    The President has the power.

The founding fathers just didn’t expect someone to actually do it

The president can be impeached. Every Republican, at every level, is actively supporting the Nazis.

They just figured if someone did what he has done the Senate wouldn’t placate it and would have thrown him out when impeached. Also they probably figured an angry mob would drag the person into the streets and execute them for doing such. The founding fathers didn’t create the secret service, they came about 90 years later or so.

Americans seem to have this image of the founding fathers as enlightened beings who came up with a perfect system made to keep working centuries in the future.

They just made what they thought best at the time. They couldn’t possibly have predicted what the US and the rest of the world would be like in a hundred years. Times change, and rules must change with them

The other two branches are supposed to act as a check but they’ve not only abdicated their responsibility but fallen in line behind the dictator. All of this could have been avoided if they had convicted trump in either the first or second impeachment, which would have prevented him from running again.
