They started out by killing all the real Socialists in Russia, the Menshiviks. Socialism was popular around the world in the early 20th century until Lenin and Stalin killed it by pretending to be “socialists” and associating socialism in the minds of people with a totalitarianism nightmare. Stalin even became the official ally of fellow dictator Adolf Hitler.
