I think they just want privacy, it didn’t seem really assholish so much as an assertion of their friend and his family’s right to privacy in the critical moment of his life. My impression was that Amberr was using levity and humor to lighten the melancholic situation inherent in the statement while also trying to mitigate stressful intrusion from strangers.

I’m saying this as someone who does not like Amberr or Felix; nothing felt off about their requests or considerations.
