Try to understand, not everyone likes windows. They require quite a bit of maintenance, are usually insecure and speaking personally, some setups just don't look good. It's why some people opt for skylights instead.

Windows is an anachronism. Since I even got my wife and her gaming PC on the light side with Garuda Linux, works like a charm. After that she wanted me to install that "cool blank desktop" I have on my work laptop on her business machine in the shop. Now she loves bspwm. Learning doesn't make life harder per se, it's fun.

    This is hilarious.

My husband runs our Lemmy instance, and he's subscribed to the Linux community, which is one of the most active on Lemmy (I probably don't need to tell you that.) I'm basically just here for memes and I ultimately blocked the Linux community because it was all over my feed. I'm a normie and I just don't care about Linux whatsoever, not enough for every other post to be about it anyway.

Sorry to be clear, I am not saying Linux sucks. I just don't have an opinion on desktop operating systems. And I was tired of every other post on my feed being about operating systems instead of the dumb internet pictures that I love and crave.

      I enjoy Linux memes.

But not when the only joke they can muster being "Other OS bad for [insert dumb false argument here]"

See the problem is, and I've experienced this myself, you leave Windows when it has a set of issues that have been long running. Then years later you get into an argument or make a meme and Windows now actually fixed that issue without you noticing because, well you're not using it anymore.

Still would like some memes other than "hurr durr, Windows bad", there's plenty of memeable content within the Linux ecosystem (like every second app for a small niche ignoring XDG_HOME and just shitting the config files all over your home directory)

I think the issue is that most Linux users aren't technically proficient enough to understand and make actual Linux memes about things like XDG_HOME, so the best they can think of is "Windows bad".

Okay, but windows has become alarmingly invasive and dumbed down.

I don’t hate windows as much as I hate Microsoft.

ReactOS is a cool project and I hope it goes somewhere.

ReactOS is dead and will go nowhere.

The reason I say this is that I've been following them for something like 15+ years by this point, and they haven't made any perceptible progress in that time. They're at exactly the same point now where they were 15 years ago.

Yes, Windows has become alarmingly invasive and dumbed down.

But how difficult is it to use actual arguments to prove they did instead of pulling completely false ones out of your ass?

I make fun of Windows search all the time because it deserves it.

But I'm not going to make fun of Windows update because it doesn't directly tell you what they changed. Since a single google search can give you the answer.

Anyway, Linux memes should be about Linux, not Windows. It is almost like those Linuxians are jealous Windows has a ginormous market share while their respective distro does not.

Then go and use any of the things you are using without linux.

Lemmy? Hosted on a Linux server

Almost any major website? Linux server

Any other web service? Linux Server

The Server infrastructure that surrounds your favourite Operating System? Guess what, Linux server

So you agree that it's jealousy that the entire world uses windows and not linux? It's the 23rd Year of the linux desktop in a row. "Uhhhhhh but my servers…" Nobody cares. Nobody wants to get rid of Debian and RHEL. Nobody wants to use them as a Desktop.

I dunno dude. 4 Billion People use computers and millions of users spread over several distributions is not a lot.
And with the amount of gatekeeping and arguing over what is and isnt the best i would also stay far away if i didnt administer servers. Even then i use windows most of the time.

The 30% of all operation systems, which only gets beaten by Android.

funny you mention that, wanna know what you get if you look at the Kernel running underneath Android? Oh would you look at that, it's actually Linux…

I do agree on the weird obsession with hating windows but lack of market share is not the reason it happens, it's probably more due to people leaving Windows in the first place because they were immensely unsatisfied with it (Unlike Windows or Mac there are very few Linux Pre-Built PCs out there so chances are any given Linux Desktop User actively decided on that choice) and are now just hung up and bashing on it.

Without Linux the whole world would litetally not run. I don't fucking care what some consumers jack of on which OS. I care what runs literally our complete infrastructure.

Which car does use Windows or Mac? Which super Computer does that? Which Important Server does that? None, literally.

Agreed. I've been slowly moving the machines onto nixOS, and I'm reformatting an older Mac for a neighbor on nixOS as well. On the livecd it runs impressively fast, but on OSX it's so slow as to be unusable. Windows is now so actively hostile that it's time to make the jump.

Any distro that uses Pipewire (most at this point) is incredibly stable with the audio setup.

PulseAudio was a bit rough at the beginning, but it got much better. But Pipewire at this point is hands down amazing.

My dad came to me in a panic "All of my passwords are gone!!!" turns out macroshaft kicked chrome off default he was using edge without knowing. It actually took me awhile to realize it was edge too because the UI is so similar. Edge does have a really big unmovable spam toolbar along the side so that was pretty much my only major tell.
