“For a clock” would be pronounced either “for aye clock” or “for uh clock”, where I’ve lived, which has mostly be above the Mason-Dixon line. “Four o’clock” would be pronounced “for oh clock”. I would never have gotten this because everywhere I’ve lived these would be pronounced differently.
I’m really curious where they’re pronounced the same. I believe it, I must can’t imagine the accent. Must be southern.
Could be one of those people that never learned to read clocks. Worked with a girl fresh out of high school and had to teach her so she would stop asking me what time it was constantly.
Maybe he has a digital wall clock at home. Though it would be weird he came to a clock shop when those digital clocks usually just need AA batteries he could’ve found at other common stores.

“four uh clock” is pretty standard for both 4:00 and for-a-clock where I am in the North-Western US.

Oh ok, yes could be he could only read digital clocks I guess. But a great story to be overly obsessive about details about, never the less :)
