What a shit! I swear I can’t be surprised and generally ignore his antics but there’s always another, scummier, act.

IKR. It’s incorrigible, but it’s 100% on-brand. Ask anyone, “do you think Trump would steal ancient israeli artifacts from the whitehouse?”. Absolutely yes, that is exactly what Trump would do given the opportunity.

That said, I don’t feel very sorry for the Israeli’s, they were just trying to suck up, Trump reciprocated with some incendiary statements in support of Israel IIRC, so it just sucks to be them really.

” The lamps were lent to the white house in 2019, before Trump took office.

What? He took office in January 2017.

ISRAEL LENT SEVERAL antiquities to the White House in 2019, including ancient clay lamps for a White House Hanukkah event. Unfortunately, Donald Trump was president at the time, which means the artifacts are now at Mar-a-Lago, and Israel can’t figure out how to get them back, Haaretz reported on Tuesday.

Don’t, just don’t engage, you’ll end up arguing why trump couldn’t have written the constitution while single handedly defeating the nazis who weren’t actually that bad, just misunderstood.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Just change anti-semite in this case to whatever the fuck redhats are now.

Wow, I made a dumb, tired mistake regarding the year that Trump took office and now I’m an anti-semite? I don’t see how you can even make that leap, even though the subject had to do with Iseael. I wasn’t defending him, in fact, my mistaken comment was intended to point out that his actions were even worse.

I’m not a Trumper and am certainly not an anti-semite. Don’t throw around accusations like that so casually. It’s dangerous for many reasons.

That is a quote by sartre about the use of nonsense in arguments, hence my footnote.

If you made an honest mistake, I apologize, but please tell me honestly you haven’t seen people make similar false arguments on purpose.

All I’m trying to say is that you should be more careful with throwing out accusations of racism. I have seen people make nonsense arguments in bad faith, yes, but I generally try to refute their point rather than label them as racist without some kind of evidence. I prefer to assume that people are mistaken rather than malicious bigots until proven otherwise.

I appreciate that anti-semitism is a legitimate problem, but calling people anti-semites over so little dilutes your arguments for when you actually do encounter one. It’s similar to conservatives calling anyone they disagree with “woke”. Overuse of the term makes it less impactful when you actually encounter someone who deserves to be labeled an anti-semite. It also “proves” to conservatives that the “left” just throws around names and labels without justification and makes it more difficult to have a reasonable discussion.

Just be more careful with tossing out loaded terms until you have something more definitive than a single mistaken sentence. It only feeds the division and does nothing to solve the current problems.
