Did anyone else get their Playstation Portal? I’m having issues with couch seating and my natural grip position. The grip is fine, but the screen angle points upward too much, resulting in glare from whatever is behind and above me (a window, no less). I can change my grip to angle the screen downward towards me, but it’s really uncomfortable. Things are better if I sit straight up and hold the Portal lower.
But I’m a a creature of comfort and I’m going to be sitting chill on the couch using this thing. I honestly don’t understand how this is even a problem; I never even thought about this ever with my Switch or Steam Deck. Did Playstation not, like, survey a bunch of 30-50 year olds who are probably gonna kick back on a couch to use this thing?
Update: I changed my grip a bit and it helped! Also, holding it upright closer to my face feels okay, too. Lost track of time and my hand wasn’t in any discomfort after a few hours, trying various games in different genres.
Nope, fine for me, but I don’t have any lights behind where I sit with it usually, super comfortable. I think this might be a problem hyper localised to your very specific situation :)
Yea, it’ll probably be fine in the long run or at night when I’m likely to use it. Gotta finish Baldur’s Gate 3.
I tend to hold the controller with the grips resting at the base of my fingers where they meet my palms, rather than in my palms. Although the curves fit my palms nicely, holding it like that makes my thumbs overhang the thumbsticks such that I need to move them with my thumb joint rather than the thumb tip…if that all makes sense.
When I hold my portal like I hold a regular controller the screen faces me dead on, but when I hold it such that it fills out my palms then it tilts up slightly. That might be your issue I think.
I also tend to hold it up to my face with bent arms while I recline, rather than sitting upright with it in my lap and looking down. I find if I don’t hold it up I get a kink in my neck. I haven’t had the Portal very long (obviously) but this is also my experience with my steam deck.
Maybe when you recline you could place a pillow in your lap to lift your arms more to get a better angle while maintaining max comfort.
Wow, that actually helps a lot, thanks for the tips. Holding it like you described helps a lot. I can tell this is more like I hold my Steam Deck (a looser grip, especially with the thumbsticks being higher on the Deck).
Works fine for me (see my post), but I usually play lying on my back.
The hell is a PlayStation portal…I’m so glad I don’t do consoles anymore and have the knowledge to push my computer to my tv whenever I want.
You realize you’re in the c/PlayStation community right?
I use all and never pay attention to ‘communities’ it’s all one bit community to me.
If you are really curious, it’s basically a “handheld” which can only be used to remote play PS5 games (from your own PS5). So you can turn on your PS5, and play any game on your bed or on couch on PS Portal. Or if you have good connection, you could play it over the internet when you are out, streaming games from your home PS5.
Thanks Slime. You dropped this 👑
I was actually curious yes. People just assume nefarious for some weird reason.
Thank you. I hate looking up what devices are because it’s usually ads, doesn’t actually tell you and they use buzzwords which are meaningless to me.
I have to admit your initial comment did not read as genuine curiosity which is why I asked if you knew what community you were in. I apologize for misreading, but I think you can see how some people might see your comment as an attempt to dunk on consoles for no reason.
Awesome, great, super helpful. Go back to fucking Reddit.
Fuck no. Enjoy your subscription increases to play games, I guess…
Hmm, I’m enjoying the fuck outta Spider-Man 2 actually. Have fun waiting years to play it.
I also have a pc and an a series x so honestly the cost makes no difference to me. I’d rather have access to their first parties.
And the point remains if you don’t like PlayStation that’s fine but then don’t be toxic and stay off the community.
Hey buddy, I appreciate you, but we’re both just feeding trolls at this point. How are you liking Spider-Man 2? I’m almost done with Ragnarok and can’t wait to start it! Especially on my portal just to swing around.
I loved it! I don’t have a portal just because I like to play on the big screen but it’s been a ton of fun. I’m really happy they went back to the original Peter model too, that might be the best part of the whole game, lol.
It’s a shitty, overpriced device that acts second screen/controller. You know, the same things phones, tablets, steam decks, ps vita do but less.
It’s obviously not for you, but it seems like a great device for specific niche. Not all devices needs to be able to do multiple things and used by everyone
Exactly. I could say the same thing about the elite controller which is also $200, but I don’t, because I realize that it’s just not for me. People need to accept that sometimes they just aren’t the target market.
The portal is a long term play by Sony to have a device category suited for eventual expansion into cloud gaming. I bet they are finding tremendous value in gathering user usage insights to better their overall remote play/cloud offerings for future versions of Portal.
I’ll try to remember to leave places as an echo chamber so you only hear good things…
You didn’t even state an opinion. If you had I’m sure you would have gotten some upvotes since not everyone here likes the portal. Some do, some don’t. You asked what the portal was and then spouted how much you love your PC. All opinions are welcome but that doesn’t mean they have to be liked or upvoted.
Also, we don’t do PC/console wars here. I have a Gaming PC, Steam Deck, Switch, PS5, PS Portal, and Quest 2. That doesn’t make me better than anyone else.
