It sounds now like we have more in common than we don’t. I shouldn’t act like a dick at Lemmy.

We are not one another’s enemy. We know who is our enemy. We must not forget this.

I appreciate that you have self reflection, better than what I usually run into on the internet. People usually double down.

With that said I also need to be good faith in return. I have to tell you as I don’t want to mislead you: I’m not involving myself in that fight.

The 2024 election result has completely disillusioned me of the idea that most people are worth fighting for in the US. I’m not interested in jumping into a meat grinder because everyone “on my side” has been insisting that its the only way while they refuse to engage with an existing (if flawed) democracy. I’ve never felt any intrinsic connection to this country. I’ve felt like an alien since birth and I’m done trying to make it a better place while it spits on my face.

I wish you luck, not that it means much. I might as well say “Thoughts and prayers”. So if you want to count me as an enemy, I wouldn’t even blame you. In reality though, I’m just done. I’m a bitter non-combatant because its hard for me to want anyone to win at all anymore. I kind of don’t think most of us deserve it.

I’ll probably not be able to help myself and I’ll end up helping “the cause” anyway or whatever. I will resent it deeply and it wont be planned though.

Our family has been enjoying the new Ken Burns documentary: American Revolution.

It’s engaged me. Reminded me that my patriotic sacrifice, should it come to that, is not in support of US imperialism, or oppression, or all those other ugly holes we succumbed to, but for the then unique vision of a world where democracy matters. So… flawed as it is… I want to support the US Constitution.

And left leaning as I am… I don’t see much good in having everything crumble so that a handful of progressives can try to set it all aright.

I just want to stand strong and demand that human beings in the US all receive due process and cannot be murdered or blinded in the streets by uniformed thugs.

Do I share a little bit of disillusion? More than a little. I’m surprised I’m out of bed and cleaning the kitchen.

It’s one foot in front of the other for all of us.

But when ICE kills someone in my metropolis… I hope to be there when they learn how we feel about that. I have protested enough with my people here that I know they are not all just talk. They are ready.
