Hi All, still trying to figure out which email to go for. Thank you for the previous helpful posts. I am wondering which email providers have built-in encryption at rest ? I know that tutanota e protonmail (body and attachments for the latter) do it. It seems that Posteo does it, but needs to be activarted if I am not mistaken. Any other providers have it? Can’t find the answer re: Mailbox Thank you

Proton in Switzerland is privacy-focused with full encryption. I went with them because Swiss privacy laws are stronger than most other places–definitely better than my home country

I use proton. In part because they claim good encryption, but also because they have decent pricing for bringing your own domain, and understand that an individual might have a domain just for them.

Seconding Proton. Their suite of other apps are great as well. I’m hoping they do some kind of similar bridge thing for calendar and contacts soon, because without that I basically can’t use them, but the other apps are great. VPN & Drive I use all the time.

I use both Tutanota and Protonmail and love both. Protonmail is based out of Switzerland where Tutanota is based out of Germany. Germany is part of fourteen eyes so I give the win to Proton there. Tutanota has lower prices. Tutanota has apps available in App Image and Flatpak for Linux where Proton is only in the AUR and as a .deb. Tutanota has an Android app on F-Droid where Protonmail you have to navigate their site to find a standalone apk. Both are on the Fediverse but Proton did leave for a while where Tutanota stayed and was more active. Overall either would be a much better otpion than Hotmail/Gmail/etc.
