46 syndicated artists participated in the event, which was conceived by Baby Blues creators Rick Kirkman & Jerry Scott.[1] Some of the switches were one-for-the-other, while others worked on the strips in sequence (i.e. one author would work on another author’s strip, and that strip’s regular author would work on another strip, continuing in this way until the sequence ends with the final traded strip). --WP
The whole thing was an elaborate, hyper-organised April Fool’s newspaper comics prank from 1997, which I only discovered about this Wednesday. At the time I was simply trying to keep my dumb arse off the streets (not drugs or booze, but my disability), and had completely fallen out of reading my beloved (and sometimes lessly-so, haha) comics pages in the local newspaper.
There’s a big article here about that day, with loads more comics examples:

Sorry FP and the reading audience,
I swear to Yahweh I’ll get back to pure edits, one of these centuries. It’s just that I keep coming across cool content that’s only ~half edits or so. Jeepers!
