The return of a mythic fighting game Mortal Kombat 1 on September 19 has already revealed the number of fighters that it will have in its initial squad. Nine remain to be announced.
Am I the only one who’s not interested in MK1 like, at all? I dunno, this title seems so mired in controversy at this point that it’s just not interesting to me. Also like, why do they feel the need to keep making their female characters look worse and worse with each new game? I don’t get it.
Besides SF6 came out recently and that game has been freakin’ amazing only thing I sorta disagree with is the monetization but it’s not the worst this industry has seen.
I think it looks super fun. It scratches an itch that no other fighter does. I liked X and 11 both not perfect, but great fun. I jumped ship on SF5 and as much as SF6 looks great… I think the SF should’ve ditched the 6 button layout long time ago. It sucks to control and it gives you bloated characters with a bunch of useless moves. It’s fake depth just for the sake of it (IMO) and not for a better experience. I think modern controls are a big step in the right direction but If you had to keep the 6 button gameplay in the game then it means modern controls had to have some compromise. And that’s just dumb.
I don’t mean to say the game is bad or that it’s wrong to like it. If people love it then more power to them. But to me, the choices made in MK1 seem far more interesting and fun, than the choices made in SF6.
And yeah, that’s fair. I guess that’s why both exist right? To satisfy both audiences. For example I like the 6 button layout of SF, you may think it just leads to useless moves, but it gives you more options in scenarios where you have to make split second decisions. That being said, I think that MK has been rather hollow for a while now, with the same set-ups loops and gameplay. But honestly, my biggest issue is that MK doesn’t really have any characters that I’d enjoy playing. Not to invalidate your opinion or anything, of course you are entitled to it as much as I am mine.
Is Tanya being a bit ugly that much of a controversy? Game looks awesome and much faster paced than 11. The cameos are much better than the customizable characters imo.
Tanya is symptomatic of a bigger issue, NetherRealm has been censoring their characters for years now and it looks like MK1 is undergoing the same treatment all in the name of “realism”. But that’s not all, I’ve actually heard the opposite of what you’re saying when it comes to the pacing of the gameplay, I hear that it’s sluggish, and while the cameos are nice, they only have a couple of different routes you can take when using them. That’s not saying you can’t be excited for the game, it’s just that I am not.
I’d say they are just moving away from the tacky bikini outfits from the PS2 era. I think katana and mileena look great. I think people have rose colored glasses when it comes to the character models for mk 9 they look much better now. As for the gameplay I won’t know until I play it but from what I see it looks more like MkX than mk11. I agree with you that SF6 will be hard to beat. I think it’s my favorite street fighter since 3.
I think there’s an easy medium here, in actuality I don’t really like the battle bikinis either but I don’t think they’ve gotta go in the completely opposite direction liiek they have. Sonya Blade in MK9 is a great example of a character that looked good and was an absolute badass. Then they went all anti-sex and we got what we got in MKX. You can have both, there’s more to good character design than just fan service but it is an integral part of making characters that people want to play as, and I think that NR just doesn’t seem to understand it. But also, it’s lopsided censorship because the men are bare chested and Goro doesn’t wear anything other than a speedo. Then you have SF6 and the way it treats it’s character design and it just feels like night and day. I just wish NR wouldn’t creatively limit their artists like this.
