It’s important to remember that the US filled the West German government with “former” Nazis after the war
Willy Brandt was not a Nazi. He was a social Democrat who took exile in Norway/Sweden during Hitler’s reign. As chancellor of West Germany, he “made peace” with Poland and East Germany, and was a big inspiration for the Cold War Detente.
This isn’t about Brandt personally, it’s about the entire West German government systematically.

Like, Brandt was basically the father of European Social Democracy, the only people I can imagine who don’t like him are the communists who think he was too liberal compared to the Weimar-era KDP, and the SED apologists.
