He was a defense witness in Trump’s NY fraud trial. This plea deal factored into Trump’s sentencing in that trial.
A plea suggests he’s getting a reduced sentence. Why? What is he giving up to get that reduction? Why does he deserve a sentence reduction when he has refused to cooperate all along?
He’s getting nabbed for perjury, that doesn’t exactly make him the most compelling witness for the prosecution. They might feel it’s sufficient for him to admit it, and that will strengthen their case against Trump, regardless of whether he is compelled to cooperate or not.
Maybe, but if they have him on perjury then they already have proof that he lied so I’m not sure how his admission strengthens the case against Trump more than the proof they already have.
Sometimes the prosecution will offer a plea deal when their case isn’t solid enough to guarantee a win in court. You don’t have to give anything up to get one.

If the prosecutor knows the cop is going to lie and calls him as a witness and allows, or even worse, elicits, that testimony then they are suborning perjury. They would likely be suspended or disbarred from the practice of law.

If by new you mean an attorney for over a decade, then I guess so. But its occurrence, or alleged regularity, doesn’t make it any less serious of an ethics violation. You can get away with a lot of shit as an attorney, but if you steal someone’s money or lie to the court, they’re going to drop the hammer on you.
They’d have to get caught lying for there to be any consequences. In my case it would be their word vs an 18yo dude with long hair in a rural area.
