Imagine it’s the early 2030s and cheap AGI models are unveiled, leading to massive hype, and a 1000% increase in the broad-based stock market, soon followed by a 20%-90% decline in prices for most goods and services. In this scenario, those with $50,000 or more in their 401ks would suddenly find themselves with $500,000, and much more buying power. Those who had $500,000 are now worth $5 million, and so on. People who were living paycheck to paycheck, and lost their jobs to AGI/robots would have a serious problem (if there was no UBI). Young people who had parents with a decent amount of savings invested in the markets beforehand would likely be set for life from their inheritance.
The point is that everyone should try to invest even if it is a little bit.
