The third party API changes come into effect tomorrow (1/7/2023) so now’s a good time to either purge or edit your existing content.

There’s still no guarantee that Reddit wont just revert your changes (which they’ve notably done to a few people so far), but at least editing your comments before you delete your account is one way you can let them know how dogshit their handling of this situation has been.

This thing was as easy as adding it to your bookmark bar on desktop, signing into old.reddit.com and pressing on it.

It’s a shame to lose years of great posts and comments but with how poorly Reddit has engaged with the community over this, there’s no point sticking around.

Reddit will almost certainly restore your deleted content. I am keeping my account just so I can purge it again and again, as long as I can…

Note: if you commented on any sub-reddits that are still private you cannot delete those comments. I have submitted a complaint with the California Attorney General regarding this as when you request to have your reddit account and information they say that “you must delete all comments, posts and photos” but do not give tools to do so in the situation of a private subreddit. Reddit has about 40 days left to respond to my complaint.

I tried this and they never ended up sending it to me. Maybe I need to do it again but I thought it said I’d get a message about it.

      Yeah, per the github:

This script uses the actual Reddit API endpoints to edit and delete instead of automating clicks on delete and edit buttons
