Does this mean the majority of African-Americans are in South America?
Pretty much. Brazil is a huge hodgepodge of different ethnicities from all continents, more so than any other country in America, and its black population traces it’s roots to the slave trade.
Pardo Brazilians (the majority) are 0.236 African according to https://web.archive.org/web/20140522233206/http://www.laboratoriogene.com.br/geneImprensa/2009/pensamento.pdf
According to Wikipedia, of the 12-12.8 million African slaves shipped to the new world, about 5.5 million went to Brazil. In comparison, the US received about 388,000.
That’s interesting, I knew there were a lot of slaves outside of the US but I’ve always heard so much about US slaves that I thought they would be a significant portion of the slave trade.
Wouldn’t have thought that the numbers would be that different though.
And yet the US is seen as the country built on slave labor…
