I just had this NOS Wüsthof razor land last night. 7/8 Extra Hollow Square Point.

Barbershop scents are my favorite genre (as faux and ill defined genre as it is), so when I laid eyes on this I knew it belonged in the collection.

I know Wüsthof is an old Cutlery company, and I’m having trouble dating this. I believe it’s pre WWII, as it was still made in Solingen. Post WWII, Wüsthof moved production to both Canada and the US. I’ve reached out to Wüsthof to see if they could help me narrow down a date.

Update: I’ve already recipe a reply from Wüsthof. Their reply simply says they do not know, nor do they keep anyone on staff knowledgeable of their history. To the deepest depths of the internet I go.

Update II: Narrowed down a date, with some help, to between 1925 and 1932

9th NOS vintage in just the last few days?

On the dot 😬 I’m expecting one other thing, but it’s being made custom by Roman Kamlash so I’m not certain when that’ll be done, much less make the trip here.

Have you held it next to a 14 to compare the geometry?

I ended up doing just that, after seeing you comment. It’s about 1/4" shorter than my 14’s, on top of being 7/8. There’s definitely some similarities in the spine and tang, but some minor differences overall. I’m going to give it a whirl in the morning.

This seems like a really nice size, good compromise between heft/lather handling and agility. Plus I like the jimping on it. Somehow I suspect you’ll hang on to this one.

And ya, wow, did you stumble onto a hidden cache of underappreciated and underpriced blades or did you set out to expand your collection like this?

Oh yeah, this one is 100% a keeper. Felt great.

I originally set out to find myself one nice razor to add to my collection. At first I was looking for a western grind Iwasaki kamisori, but then I found that NOS Iberia within my budget and jumped.

The Kobar 7 day was just happenstance. I had seen the lot on a small auction site and tossed a bid out there and ended up winning.

This razor was pure accident. I had just stumbled on it and just knew I just had to have it.
