Noir is very much alive and defined by not having any “good” charcters, just lots of shades of gray quasi heroes. “Nightcralwer”, “Emily the Criminal” and “Girl with the dragon tattoo” movies are great examples of modern noir. That trope is just dated, but also still used in sci-fi like Blade Runner.
