Obligatory “not today” disclaimer: actually fucked up over two decades ago, but found out today.

At the dawn of theinternet, I made an account on imgur. I figured (correctly) that I wasn’t going to use it often enough for the username to matter much, so I just went with the first part of my email adress and a number four times.

Turns out that there is such a thing as nazi number code and it’s never a good idea to use an even number of 8s for usernames when you’re not a nazi.

TL;DR: Didn’t know about nazi code, accidentally selected an imgur username ending with the equivalent of a double Hitler salute

Its not 1939 man. Nazis are not an immediate threat, its pretty priveledged to worry about Nazis. What, are you also worried about Confederate ghosts? The Hunley sinking your yacht?

I would argue that it’s incredibly privileged to worry about Nazis. Literally any immediate problem (EQ: Roadwork that never ends) matters more. It’s almost like worrying about the fall of the Roman empire, there’s things to actually worry about, and you’re wasting time and energy on that? If you’re that bored, try getting a hobby, or maybe finding a girlfriend. Something, anything, because guess what? This isn’t 1944, it’s 2023, and we are so far removed from Nazis that it’s more indicative of an extremely bored mind than anything else.

Dude they have literally been distributing Nazi fliers in the cities near me trying to recruit new members.

Wake the fuck up, or they’ll gather until they are something you wish you’d noticed way earlier.

My grandfather got a Purple Heart in WWII and I’ll be god damned if my daughter is gonna do the same. Fuck Nazi scum.

He definitely would. Dude is so sheltered or allowed to be so wilfully blind that he doesn’t even know that neo-nazis exist and are a significant problem and he’s calling OTHER people privileged 🤦🤯

Edit: I read on and found out that he was just a fascist pretending that he and his buddies are just misunderstood normal conservatives 🤦

That’s very true and I am intellectually aware, but I have an annoying habit of sometimes being overly optimistic when it comes to assuming good faith so that I miss some that should be obvious lol.

Then again, it’s usually the me calling them an idiot rather than a liar, so they don’t get a pass either way 😁

Maybe. Lots of things had to happen before the Nazis went full Nazi, but there were some warning signs. Lots of Jew hate, talk about the “Jewish problem” (their words, not mine) and they were an actual German party at the time. Hard to tell with an alternate reality.

A member of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei? Charitably, you can include wannabe members in that, like the kids that were in the German Youth program. At best, all Nazis are a 100 years old at tgis point. They are not a threat.

I thought it was a rhetorical question, tone is lost through text.

@Blamemeta If a man stands in the public square and yells “Gas the Jews!” and “Heil Hitler!” and does the Nazi salute and has swastika tattoos all over, is it fair to call him a Nazi, even though he is not on the party list of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei?

Well, he isn’t. He wants to be, so he’s just a wannabe Nazi. Not sure if that makes him lower than a Nazi, or if that’s even possible. Further more, he doesn’t really pose a threat, he’s just some asshole, and assholes are not really worth worrying about. What’s one guy gonna do? Shout at people and make them uncomfortable? He’s not exactly going to get a following.

@Blamemeta Seems like a useless way to talk about the world. Maybe we should count him as a Nazi since the only way in which he’s not a Nazi is that he’s not enrolled in the NSDAP party membership?
