Obligatory “not today” disclaimer: actually fucked up over two decades ago, but found out today.
At the dawn of theinternet, I made an account on imgur. I figured (correctly) that I wasn’t going to use it often enough for the username to matter much, so I just went with the first part of my email adress and a number four times.
Turns out that there is such a thing as nazi number code and it’s never a good idea to use an even number of 8s for usernames when you’re not a nazi.
TL;DR: Didn’t know about nazi code, accidentally selected an imgur username ending with the equivalent of a double Hitler salute
Maybe we shouldn’t because having membership is literally the only requirement. By that measure, Lincoln, Einstein, and Dolly Parton are all Nazis.
Also if you’re replying to me, I don’t think you need to link me.
@Blamemeta and I am using a Twitter-style server, which links you when replying. I am not sure if the link is required, but Twitter wouldn’t show you the reply if it wasn’t linked.
Maybe Im wong, but you’ve seen my replys right? And I haven’t been linking. I think lemmy is its own thing at the moment.
@Blamemeta I am talking to you from a Twitter interface called Pleroma. I can see your replies to me because Lemmy will send them to me simply because they are replies. I am not sure if Pleroma wil send replies back to Lemmy if they don’t link.
It works on the website, so i think its just a regular feature of lemmy
